Adventure Training
Enriching bush walk for exercise and calm social interactions, around the Southern Highlands.
More than just a walk…
You can’t decide if your dog needs training or a walk, so why not both?
These are for the pet parents who know they need not just exercise and enrichment, but also real-world lessons for their dogs. Imagine a dog who is calm from exercise, but also learning how to be the best dog they can be?
That’s exactly what our adventure walks do. Body and behaviours in one.
We work with dogs all over the Southern Highlands, including outer villages like Hill Top—Wingello, Bundanoon, Canyonleigh, Fitzroy Falls, Robertson, and areas of the Wollondilly.
What’s included:
• 4 Hours, including pick up and drop off.
• Training session tailored to you and your dog’s needs.
• Enriching bush walk for exercise and calm social interactions.
• Structured leash walk focusing on engagement and leash manners.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Unlike standard backyard obedience classes, adventure dog training teaches your canine companion how to behave reliably in highly distracting, stimulating, and fluid outdoor environments.
Instead of just learning to "sit" in a quiet room, we practice core behaviors out in the real world. The training focuses on:
Reliable recall (coming when called) around native wildlife and scents.
Loose-lead walking on narrow bush tracks.
Polite trail etiquette when passing horse riders, mountain bikers, or other hikers.
Confidence building over uneven terrain, sandstone, and around water features.
-
We utilise some of the most beautiful, dog-friendly bushwalks and reserves across the Southern Highlands. Depending on your dog's skill level, training sessions may take place at:
The Box Vale Walking Track (Mittagong) – Great for teaching focus in shaded fern cuttings and navigating longer dirt tracks.
Bong Bong Common Walk (between Moss Vale and Burradoo) – Ideal for mastering loose-lead walking and focus on a wide, flat shared pathway with high distractions.
Berrima River Walk – Excellent for social boundaries and scent management along the river trails.
Lake Alexandra Reserve (Mittagong) – A fantastic spot for proofing behaviors around heavy birdlife and public distractions.
Please Note: We never train in local National Parks (like Morton or Budderoo) where domestic pets are legally prohibited to protect local native wildlife.

If your dog has "big feelings" (reactivity, over-excitement, or anxiety), jumping straight into a group trail walk can be incredibly overwhelming for them.
For reactive dogs, we always begin with 1-on-1 private consultations or a specialised "Walk and Train" service. We use force-free, science-based protocols to lower your dog's stress levels and build their confidence at home and in quiet areas first. Once they have the foundational coping skills, we gradually transition them to real-world trail scenarios.

Safety and comfort are our top priorities on the trails. We have all that is needed to ensure that your pup has a fun and safe adventure while with us, including long and short leashes, water, rewards, and a first aid kit.
However, we do request that your dog is up to date with all vaccinations. -
The Southern Highlands bush is beautiful, but it does come with natural hazards.
Parasites: We highly recommend that your dog is up-to-date with a premium paralysis tick and flea preventative prior to any outdoor session.
Wildlife: Snakes, wombats, and kangaroos are common in areas like Penrose State Forest and Mittagong's backtrails. Part of our core curriculum is teaching a rock-solid "leave it" command and a predatory chase redirection cue, ensuring your dog looks to you rather than pursuing local wildlife.
